Stamped, which sought to be a new take on social recommendations, has been gobbled up by Yahoo. The iOS app will shut down by the end of the year as the Stamped team will be launching a New York-based engineering office for Yahoo.
A joint blog post from the company’s three founders praised Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer and her new leadership of the company.

As a team of mostly former Googlers, we’ve all worked with and are big fans of Marissa. So when an opportunity arose to become a part of the team at Yahoo!, we jumped. As entrepreneurs, it’s never easy to walk away from something you built from the ground up, but the folks we met with at Yahoo! are simply top-notch and we’re thrilled to be joining them!
If you have been using Stamped you can download a PDF of all of your previous Stamps.
With Stamped, users chose a unique color and then recommended anything they were a fan of: restaurants, TV shows, books, or other topics. It was fairly wide open and designed to be a different kind of recommendation app than other choices which are more focused on a specific genre.
The team said in its blog post that it will be working on something, “big, mobile, and new.” No further details were disclosed.
