Readers of the tablet-based news service can now get their fix from The Daily iPhone app. Subscribers to the current versions on the iPad or Android tablets get access to the iPhone version for free.
The Daily launched in early 2011 to much buzz from News Corp. (its parent company) and Apple as it was the first news organization to offer its content exclusively on the iPad.
It now expands to the smaller screen, offering some free content in order to attract new readers. The Daily on tablets charges $0.99 per week or $39.99 for a full-year subscription.
In what is likely an effort to attract a wider readership, The Daily iPhone app offers a limited number of free articles for non-subscribers. In this version there is also a small ad that runs along the bottom of the page.
The Daily features the familiar seven areas of content, such as new, business, sports, and gossip. Also included are the impressive photography that The Daily has sought to establish itself with during its short run.
This is not the first iPhone app for The Daily. As part of the launch of Angry Birds Space, The Daily released an app filled with space information and Angry Birds tidbits. There was also a football guide for the 2011 season.
Those who wish to subscribe for access only on the The Daily iPhone app can have content access for $1.99 per month or $19.99 per year.
