Time Shutter San Francisco is an incredibly cool app for anyone who has an affinity for The City. If you live there or visit frequently, it is an eye-opening experience of the past.

The app contains a Google map of San Francisco with numerous points of a historic venue. Tap on one of those to get a photo of what that spot used to look like. Want to find out more about it? Then just tap the information button for a historical narrative.

To experience the full potential of Time Shutter, you need to have your iPhone in hand and hit the streets of San Francisco. Find one of the historic spots and then pull up its historic photo. A semi-transparent picture will appear in the foreground while you line up the picture.

Some photos are difficult to duplicate depending on from what angle they were photographed. For example, getting an accurate picture of Union Square would require being inside a hotel room at the Westin St. Francis. [Read more...]
