Bop It! Goes Touch on iOS

Bop It! was one of those toys that was nearly impossible to put down. There is something about an unending challenge that makes it that more addicting (see the zombie level in Call of Duty: Black Ops for further evidence).

Yet I was quite skeptical when Bop It! came to the iPad.  The whole premise involves twisting, pulling, and of course “bopping” the multi-widget toy structure. While playing on the iPad is not nearly as addicting as the original toy, it has its own measure of fun that could win over friends during a game party. [Read more...]

FIFA 12 is by far the best football game on iOS. And we are not only talking the European definition; even as a die-hard fan of the NFL, I found it far more enjoyable to play than EA’s latest version of Madden[Read more...]

Madden NFL 12 Review for iPhone, iPad

Madden has returned for another season, complete with new versions for iOS and Android. Along with updated rosters comes improved graphics, additional controls and other gameplay enhancements.

Those who already plunked down $60 for the Xbox 360 or PS3 game may be hesitant to part with another $6.99 to play on an iPhone or Android handset. The iPad app is also a separate purchase for $9.99. Is the cost worth it? For most readers, the answer is probably no. While the game holds much promise, it still feels in many ways like a beta release with some glaring bugs and unusual player behavior.

Draw Jump Review

Physics-based games have been quite the hit lately, with Air Penguin and Spoing getting plenty of downloads and positive reviews in the App Store.

Draw Jump, the latest iOS game from EA Mobile, is another good entry into this popular genre. The player must keep Cosmo the Rocket from falling back to Earth by drawing a series of trampoline-like launching pads.

The physics part of the game is essential, as Cosmo will ricochet off the left and right sides of the screen based on what angle the player draws the line. Swiping one’s finger at the bottom of the screen must be done before Cosmo falls back down to Earth, ending the game.

Fly higher to collect sunflower fuel cells and visit planets with hot dogs or sea creatures. Other extras include some stars that fling Cosmo around, so stay alert for where the line must be drawn next. [Read more...]

Monopoly for iPad Review

Monopoly is one of the best classic board games to be re-imagined for the iPad.

It is an enhanced version that uses lots of animation, yet it keeps the essential elements of Monopoly translating into an enjoyable experience. There are several different ways to play. With a group of people the game can be played in tabletop mode, which allows everyone to take turns much as one would with a traditional board game. If there are two or more iPads in the room with Monopoly loaded on there, then play over WiFi or Bluetooth. Or if flying solo, just fire up a regular one-player game.

If new to the world of Monopoly, then check out teacher mode. It walks a beginner through the basics of both how to play the game, especially in the specific context of the iPad game. Monopoly involves buying and trading properties. The more properties owned, the more money that can be collected from opponents when land on those spaces. [Read more...]

EA is best known for its sports titles. Fortunately many of the better options are on the sale list. Highly recommended is Fight Night Champion and Madden 11; the iPad version is especially a good deal. NBA Jam (unfortunately only the iPhone version) is the newest game on the sale list, so if you don’t mind the smaller screen grab that one for the iPhone.

NBA Jam HD Review

With the NBA playoffs in full swing, there is no better way to celebrate than by taking on the retro gaming action of NBA Jam – now available in an HD version specifically for the iPad.

Many have fond memories of performing super-human feats with NBA stars and their oversized domes from the arcade classic. EA Mobile has done a solid job of re-tooling the game, which originally debuted in 1993. In fact the announcing of Tim Kitzrow and his trademark phrase, “boomshakalaka!” is loud and clear.
