Control Your Xbox with My Xbox Live App

The My Xbox Live iPhone app now navigate your console’s menu. A few configuration steps are required on your Xbox and iPhone in order to make it happen.

If you have not done so, be sure to update the My Xbox Live app so that you are running version 1.5. Your Xbox and iPhone will then need to be connected to the same WiFi network for this process to work.

On the Xbox screen, go to Console Settings and then find Xbox Companion. Flip this on so that you can connect with your device. On your iPhone you find a rather large “Connect to Xbox” icon. Just tap that, wait for it, and then you can now navigate the Xbox menu. You will get a notification on your phone and then three buttons will appear for maneuvering through the on-screen options.

The functionality is rather limited at this point. Yet it hints at a future of what could be, especially with the Xbox SmartGlass project on the horizon. One can imagine being able to draw up plays in Madden or perform other hidden strategy when playing against other friends in the room.

While this update came across for all iOS devices, it currently only works with an iPhone. Those using an iPad will hopefully get this similar functionality with a later update.
