There sometimes is that awkward moment when you find just the right item online and want to make a purchase. Ah, but then you remember that the wallet is downstairs. Your phone, however, is probably right nearby. With Lemon, that is all you need.
The iPhone/Android app, formally known as Lemon.com Wallet, digitizes your credit, debit and reward cards so you have a secure copy with you at all times. I have found it invaluable for the many moments in life when I need to provide a credit card number for buying something online or over the phone but don’t have my wallet handy. It also could be quite useful if my wallet were to be lost.
But that is not all that Lemon has in mind. Its major claim to fame is to work as a digital receipt tracking service. After signing up you create a custom @lemon.com email address so retailers can send their receipt (an option that is becoming more popular).
The free service provides this basic functionality, with space for unlimited cards, receipts, specials and offline access. For $9.99 per month (or $99 for one year) Lemon PRO contains more in-depth receipt analysis, data export, expense sharing and “superfast” processing.
To add a card, you simply scan it with your device camera. For some cards it took a couple of different tries depending on how readable the card’s numbers were. You will recognize that it properly scanned if the numbers and card appearance are digitized.
For security, you can create a four-digit PIN that will prevent anyone from seeing your data until this is typed into the keyboard.
I found the newest Android version to be equally functional to its iPhone counterpart. However, as is often the case the iPhone version of Lemon had significantly more polish and eye candy.
