One of the best features of Android is the customization options of widgets. Foursquare recently added a new Explore Widget that quickly scans near your location for happening places in which to discover.
The Explore Widget functions more like an app, in that it does not have any live information to feed you from the home screen. However, it launches directly to your location on a map, with pinpoints of nearby Foursquare-created checkin opportunities. I find it pretty useful for the proverbial, “what’s around here?” question when exploring a new city.
If the current location you are standing in is not that cool, just pinch and zoom to move the map around to a different area you would rather investigate.
