The latest universal build will cost you $4.99, getting you a version of Dragon’s Lair for both Android phones and tablets. Having played the original version a couple of years ago on an iPhone 3GS, the trip to memory lane is rather good. For those unfamiliar, you play as Dirk the Daring, who must rescue Princess Daphne in a trap-laden castle. It was a radical game for its time, using laser discs to give graphics that looked like a cartoon in an era where everything was a pixilated mess.
The mobile gameplay matches some of the limitations of the original version: you essentially tap the directional arrow or attack button after it prompts you with a flash. If you are looking for a new game to play, but don’t have the nostalgia for Dragon’s Lair, it may not be for you.
Nonetheless, it is another good sign of the increasingly stronger gaming presence on Android. The options are looking better with more games either debuting simultaneously or quickly being ported over to Google Play.
