Appy Geek now follows its cousin News Republic in getting a slick makeover today.
The news aggregation app, of which TheAppPlanet is a content partner, has a refreshed interface for finding tech stories from a larger variety of other sites.
Much like News Republic, Appy Geek has an interface that reminds one of Flipboard and Windows Phone. There are customizable tiles that can display articles from trending tech topics, such as Apple, Google, Android, iOS, etc.
When tapping a tile, they fly off-screen in a manner very reminiscent of Windows Phone. Articles can then be shared with social networks or rated by the app’s mood system. It also has the “TagNav” explorer button, which explores similar topics to the one in the current article. Users can also access other online resources for an article as well as set custom news alerts for topics.
Users now also can filter any news channel by date, moods, or those with videos. Move the tiles around the home screen to customize its look. The newest version also now supports the iPad’s Retina Display.
Along with TheAppPlanet, contributors to Appy Geek include The Next Web, IntoMobile, Tom’s Hardware, and Pocket Lint.
Appy Geek is one of the apps in the family of news aggregation apps from Mobiles Republic. Others include News Republic, Glam Life, and Sports Republic.
