Since the Angry Birds have clearly conquered Earth, it only makes sense that space would be their next venture.
The latest game in the hyper-popular series, Angry Birds Space, offers a new take on the physics-based play by introducting a new element: gravity.
Launch the familiar birds at the pigs, but get ready for more thought and calculation. Players must anticipate the gravitational pull of the various planets where the pigs are hanging out. It adds an extra element of challenge that gives Angry Birds a fresh makeover instead of just offering the same play on different levels.
Add in some new birds and it’s well worth the $0.99.
However, be ready to turn down multiple upgrade offers that are spread throughout the game. There are extra levels and tools that can be unlocked. Fortunately one of the more popular upgrades, the Mighty Eagle, is initially free unless you wish to reload with more.
While Rio and Seasoned just seemed like an extension of the original Angry Birds, Space is a well-designed sequel that made me rediscover my initial addiction to Angry Birds. Lining up a shot means thinking about the obstacles, position of the pigs, and monitoring the planets’ gravity. The right shot can whip around a planet and give the bird an extra boost before slamming in to the target. Aim too high and the birds will fly off into the depths of space.
Those who have Angry Birds fatigue will probably find that Space is not strong enough to be the cure. If you have had your fill of flinging birds, this may be one to skip. But those on the fence should give it a serious look, as the new gameplay and extra features make it a worthy addition to the franchise.
